If you feel like you need more than memory, then maybe the M1 upgrade is for you. Putting aside residual resale value on your current Mini, you're still getting a big upgrade on the memory front for a fraction of the price of a new Mac Mini M1. Upgrading your current model to 20GB of memory, with a full kit from iFixIt ( one 16GB module plus the tools), is $90 USD + tax. Then, think about the cost of a new Mac Mini M1 - a 16GB RAM, 256GB storage model is $830 USD + tax. While I appreciate the variety of comments here, I think many are immediately jumping on the M1 bandwagon without putting things into perspective.įirst off - when you say you "need more performance", what do you mean? 8GB of RAM is a paltry amount if you're doing any serious multi-window workflow on the Mini (whether it be video or content editing, multiple email and web browsers, streaming video, etc.) 8GB just doesn't cut it anymore for a lot of things. ![]()
